The encryption key specific to your SafeCrypt drive is retrieved using the “.dlsession.xml” file and is necessary to encrypt and decrypt the drive.

This folder does not present a security risk as your password along with the encryption key are needed to decrypt the files, and are fully hashed and fully secured.
We recommend you backup the security token as a preventative measure so that if the “.dlsession.xml” file is lost, you would have a copy of it stored that will allow you to recover your data.

If the security token is not backed up and the encryption key is lost, all data (created using that encryption key) would be gone forever without any way to be recovered.
